I am currently reading Purpose Driven Life: What on Earth Am I Here For, and a section jumped out from the page at me
‘ Any time you reject any part of yourself,
you are rejecting God’s wisdom and sovereignty in creating you.’ P75
This year I have been making an effort to challenge negative thoughts I have about myself. Some of the words we say over and over about ourselves are so ingrained into our daily life, we hardly recognise the hold they have over us. Whether the negative words we regularly repeat are in our thoughts, or spoken out loud to other people, we need to realise the greater impact; we aren’t just damaging ourselves, but also hurting God.
If you are struggling to stop the negative words you believe about yourself, think about it from God’s perspective. As Rick Warren says, every time you reject yourself, you are fundamentally rejecting your Creator.
‘Turn to me and receive my gentle correction;
Watch and I will pour out my spirit on you;
I will share with you my wise words in order to redirect your lives.’
Proverbs 1:23 The Voice
Our Saviour Jesus Christ, is wisdom. For us to fully accept who we are in God’s eyes, who formed us in His image. We need to turn to Him, to receive His gentle correction, and learn who we are within His perfect love.
As God’s temple with the Holy Spirit residing in each of us, we need to surrender everything to God; our lives, what we think about ourselves, our future, and purpose.
Negative words destroy, but words of truth are sweet like honey and healing to our bodies and spirit. With everything, God has the final Word.
You are God’s masterpiece ( Ephesians 2:10).
“I’ve never quit loving you and never will.
Expect love, love, and more love!
Jeremiah 31:3 The Message
Please join me in prayer
Heavenly Father, I am sorry for the many times I reject myself and hurt You when I speak negative words and put myself down. Please help me see myself as You see me. Thank You for Your great love; that I am Your masterpiece. Please help me to speak only words of truth, and listen to what You think about me. Please make me aware of the times I reject myself. and help me walk within Your gentle correction.
In Jesus’ name
